digital pros

For reasons that may become apparent at a later date, I was looking at the wikipedia page about digital publishing.

Specifically, I was looking at the ‘comparison of e-books with printed books‘.

wikipedia e-book advantages
The very first ‘advantage of e-books’ caught my eye:

An e-book can be purchased, downloaded and used immediately, whereas when one buys a book one has to go to a bookshop, or wait for a delivery.

The way that’s phrased makes it sound as if going to a bookshop were a terrible thing. Has it occurred to them that if you go to a bookshop or library, you can start reading the books straight away without waiting for them to download?

Perhaps my next favourite from the ‘e-book advantage’ list is:

An e-book can automatically open at the last read page.

Whatever would I do with all those hand-made lace bookmarks my mother has made me if all we had were electronic books?

I’m glad to see the list preceded by the warning ‘this section has multiple issues.’ Mind you, I’m not sure I really expected better from wikipedia. And, anyway, I really do like printed books.
