Some readers will remember the fraught few days last summer when I wondered if the house was to be burned to a frazzle by the Gredos fire. It’s hard to believe that with all the rain that’s fallen recently.

Anyway, I still have a “Google alert” set up that tells me when any relevant news appears on the web. Which is why I’ve just seen this headline from the catástrofes y accidentes section of ABC online:

Aplazan por mal tiempo reforestación...

Yes, the re-forestation has been put off because of the weather.

This was taken from my phone a few days ago. I didn’t expect it to come out well so hadn’t got around to downloading it.

Sadly, it isn’t really clear enough to see how the colours created the illusion of bands of flowers on the mountain.

There is a phrase in the introduction to Heaney’s Beowulf (Faber & Faber) that caught my attention when I first read it:

“Nevertheless, the dragon has a wonderful inevitability about him and a unique glamour.”

It took me about five years before I found the poem where the idea could be used.

Of course it’s possible that speed isn’t necessary when we’re dealing with mountains, dragons and poetry.
