new year, new luck

London. Night skyline with cranes.

Somewhere on my twitter feed yesterday, I was reminded that cranes are symbolic of luck and good fortune.

Since I have no better idea of what to post today for the New Year bank holiday, I wonder if these photos, mostly culled from the archives, can be considered apposite.

I rather hope the cranes pictured are busy working on constructing a positive future.

There is a large, long-necked bird just visible in that last photo, but it’s a stork rather than a crane. The best I can do for a photo of a crane from the natural world is a crane fly.
