break in the clouds

We all turn out to watch
the river churn and the bridges
froth at the mouth while
above us, angry mountains clench
white teeth, briefly holding back
the storm.

In a brief lull in the torrential rain yesterday, I ventured as far as the village.

plus ça change

The BBC are running a story under the headline, “Middle-aged targeted in Change4Life health campaign“.

The report says that people in the 45 – 65 age group

are to be urged to downsize their plates and dance to the radio as part of the government-backed Change4Life advertising campaign.

sunshine

People have this unrealistic idea of Spain being semi-desert and sunny the whole time. It isn’t. Where I am, the weather’s turned cold and grey again, and it looks as if the rain will be around for a few days, so I think something is needed to brighten things up.

The only thing in flower in the garden at the moment, other than a few weeds – mostly groundsel and wild marigolds – are violets and crocuses. I took this picture last week.

tower power

Torre Espacio

Yesterday, I had coffee with a friend who works in the Torre Espacio. I hadn’t been to Madrid’s “Four Towers” business park before and it was quite impressive.

Oddly, though, I found it more dizzying to look up at the tower than to look down from the 41st floor. (The Tower has 57 floors above ground, but your pass gives access only to “need-to-know” areas.)

No photos from inside as I’m limited to a phone camera at the moment, and phones had to be checked in at the security desk.

And, yes, the sky really was that blue and cloudless.
