As a follow up to the pictures of pigs post, another story from the BBC:
BBC News photographer Jeff Overs was stopped and questioned for taking photographs in Westminster.
(I took the photo to the right on a trip to London earlier this year. Nobody tried to stop me, although, with hindsight, my choice of perspective of the monument seems far more suspect than the usual tourist might choose.)
Incidentally, has anyone else noticed the similarity in sound between “terrorism” and “tourism”?
Following the convoluted paths of the internet, I arrived at the BBC story from reddit, via boingboing, and I’d just like to include this quote from Cory Doctorow:
Terrorism is about magnifying one mediagenic act of violence into one hundred billion acts of terrorized authoritarian idiocy.
I wish I’d said that.

And why, for all that’s holy, why that, I barely dare call it “word”, “meadiagenic”?
Mediagenic?
Mediagenic!!??
Next we’ll be reading “mediagenetic”.
Or, why not?, “mediamutant”?
Now, that makes more sense.

First time I read it, I thought the same as you; then I saw just how totally apt and effective the word was. We have “photogenic”, so mediagenic makes perfect sense.
As for “mediamutant”, I think that’s the default setting!
