This juxtaposition of signs caught my eye:
In fact, the Evangelical Christian Church has long gone from the building, and was replaced by the ‘Centre for Rest’ – which sells beds, mattresses etc. – but I thought of Matthew 11, 28:
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Incidentally, translating travel and life style articles, I occasionally come across the Spanish word restauración, and do a double take. In a phrase such as restauración del pueblo it’s not always immediately clear whether it refers to the refurbishment of the town, or its catering facilities.
I suppose it makes some kind of sense to connect restaurants with restoratives, but it’s not something we tend to do in English.
