That’s a mean wasp, those with red around the heads are very large and are amogst the meanest. If it measures an inch or more and if you spot the nest, call the “agentes forestales” or better the Seprona (game wardens) to have it removed and destroyed. Their sting is nasty and some 6mm long

I didn’t take a tape measure to it, but reckon about 3cm; it’s certainly what I’d call a hornet. There are always a few around, but I’ve never seen their nests.
