hic sunt dracones

scarlet snapdragonI have a soft spot for dragons. Especially red ones. So naturally I stopped to photograph these flowers when I saw them in the park yesterday.

Then I found something even more dragon-like:

red dragon's headI found another dragon, too, though less red:

Heron on river bankAnd yet another, with baby dragons in tow:

Swan and three cygnets

In case anyone doubts that the magical creatures in the last two photos are actually dragons, I would refer you to Winnie-the-Pooh, a known expert on the subject:

“Yes, those are dragons all right,” said Pooh.
“As soon as I saw their beaks I knew.
That’s what they are,” said Pooh, said he.
“That’s what they are,” said Pooh.
