A few days ago, a friend sent me a link to an article in the Guardian with the title Unlike life and the universe, Europe has no simple answer.
I’m not sure whether Europe itself has a simple answer, but the official referendum blurb that came through the door recently shows a question that can be answered very simply:
Should we remain in the EU or leave the EU?
That’s a very definite Yes from me. Or perhaps a very definite No.
I wonder what will be the outcome of the referendum. A “Yes” or a “No” could mean so much. Or not.

Exciting, isn’t it? If everyone votes “Yes”, there could still be an even split. Not to mention if we all vote “No”.

It would’ve been sad if it wasn’t that funny.

They’ve said all along that the phrasing of the referendum question would be crucial to the outcome. (Except they probably had to say “result” as “outcome” could be seen as subliminally influential.)

And they’ve been absolutely right, haven’t they?

I think the absolute right and the absolute left both want us to absolutely leave.
(Although, technically, the Communist Party may not count as “absolute left”.) I see from the CP website that the Lexit group was formed to “fight for a No vote in the forthcoming referendum on EU”, which seems to bring us back to simple answers.

The real question though: is it referenda or referendums?

Another question with a simple answer: Yes.
