I mentioned a couple of weeks ago the slightly strange fact that during this lockdown my muse seems to have been liberated and I am writing again. Admittedly, I’m not writing a huge amount of poetry, but then, I don’t think I ever did write that much, and I’ve always accepted that poems can take years to evolve, so the fact that I have some jottings may mean that more poems will come in time.

There’s also prose, both creative and associated with my business. As I said yesterday, social distancing actually seems to have encouraged conversations, and each conference call or webinar seems to produce at least one gem of an idea that could be worth working up into a full-length article or essay.

prime time

Yesterday evening, the clock on my phone tried to convince me that the New year was here hours before it was due. Then time appeared to whizz by and what seemed to be a mere minute later the display read 2018, 31st December.

It was all a bit confusing and I certainly needed that extra second of 2016 to work out what was going on.

I was intrigued by the BBC website Magazine story entitled Do the dead outnumber the living?

My attention was caught in particular by the table at the end showing a total for the number of people who have ever lived as 107,602,707,791.

counting the cost

discounted property prices

I had an email from my bank with a list of “descuentos en vivienda” – property bargains with up to 30% discounts.

Which is all very well, but I actually stopped and read the prices being shown: the “before” and “after” figures, and the alleged percentage discounts.

Of the five properties, only two have the figures calculated correctly.
