red blues

Social media networks – “the mean redes”

shades of red

I read somewhere years ago that feng shui experts recommend using red folders for projects as it’s an auspicious colour and increases the likelihood of success.

The Spanish word red can be translated as “net” or “network”.

The combination of these two ideas may explain why I am currently attempting to tie together my profiles on different redes sociales – presumably if I put this blog into the context of a more complete red, it’ll be more visible, and therefore more successful.

The world of social media is not something that really appeals to me, though, and I can’t help but think of Holly Golightly battling with “the mean reds”. In Breakfast at Tiffany’s (the book), she says:

[T]he mean reds are horrible. You’re afraid and you sweat like hell, but you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Except something bad is going to happen, only you don’t know what it is.

Seeing how angsty and het up I’m getting about hitting ‘send’/ ‘post’/ ‘publish’/ ‘tweet’/ ‘share’ etc., and about granting permission for the different platforms to communicate, I reckon “the mean redes” is a good expression for social media networks.
