Perhaps unsurprisingly given the heat, everything slows down for the summer in Spain, so I’m finally getting time to think about revising some old poems.
This fragment comes from a far longer piece, but I think it’s worth posting it as a stand-alone, particularly as the blog is in dire need of an update:
the sun flowers
and sheds its petalled light
into the corners
of our unswept lives
palm fronds prick at a volcanic sky
and bright hibiscus
leer at pink-skinned foreigners.
You might expect the predominant colour in the Canary Islands to be banana yellow, but that certainly wasn’t my experience in Tenerife.

The words are really only an excuse to post the photo. Sadly, even if you click the picture to enlarge it, it isn’t clear that the ‘dandelion’ globe was around three inches in diameter (approximately 8 cm).
I had to make do with my phone camera yesterday and of course by the time I’d re-charged my camera and went out this morning, there was nothing left. Perhaps I’ll catch the other bud at the right moment.
And, while I do have some glorious flowers on my table, sadly, there’s not a pensamiento to be found among them:
