In a story on the BBC website, about the streaked tenrecs of Madagascar, I find the following:

Unique hedgehog-like mammals have been filmed using their quills to communicate.

I wonder if they’ll eventually progress to fountain pens, biros, and on to other, more modern, technology.

(Yes, the photo includes all sorts of irrelevant stationery items, but it was the only one I had in my files that featured a quill pen. I think it may be a porcupine quill.)

nothing new

I haven’t written anything new for a while, but am pleased to have polished some old poems and I actually sent off a competition entry today, which is the first I’ve managed in many months. I’ve also recently applied for a place on a course, and offered a workshop for another course, so it’s not that I’m not thinking about poetry, just that I don’t seem to have any new ideas.

the adjective in question

They say that “on the internet, no one knows you’re a dog” (although I reckon the bitches are usually easy enough to spot). It’s also sometime difficult to tell if the person you’re chatting to is real or a ‘chatbot’.

I reckon that Amy must be a bot –

plain speaking

When I wrote the post about the PP’s Rescate game earlier, I visited their web site to see if I could actually see or play the game myself. The page (http://www.ppcatalunya.com/rescate/) loads but there’s no game there. What there is, is a little diagonal strap across the top left hand corner with the slogan hablando claro – speaking clearly:
